Chipped Crystal Decanter Broken Neck

The decanter had a large chip and most of the lip was gone. We cut off the top of the decanter flat. Then we made a new neck.

New Neck old stopper ground and polish to fit.

A very old and beautiful decanter had a crack in it , was stained and part of the stopper was missing.  The antique decanter with a silver collar  had a locking stopper.  That was a first for me . I have never seen a decanter like this.

The crack was running down from the neck so very carefully I turned the crack and made it run back up to the top. After removing the silver collar the broken piece was removed and the stains ( sick glass)  were polish out .

Reinstall silver collar note key in lock.

Repair stopped by making new plug and grind and polish to fit decanter neck.

Antique glass repair pressed cake plate

Grandmas antique glass cake plate was broken during washing.  Hot water was the problem it happens over and over again.  I seen it many times.  The good part about heat cracks is they are very clean breaks. The pieces fit back together and there are no small chips.  This  antique glass plate looked great after the repair.

Crystal Repair Antique Cut Glass Cruet

The antique cut glass cruet was missing a stopper. It’s one of four cruets that fit in a sterling ring. With out the stopper the value would be greatly diminished.  I made  new crystal stopper.

Crystal Repair Antique Glass Stopper

A pair of Antique crystal cruets with a very delicate cut pattern were sent to me for repair.  The one crystal bottle was missing apart of the stopper. They sent along the top of the antique crystal stopper but the bottom had broken off and was lost. They also sent along one good antique cut glass cruet that need a stopper and one good crystal stopper.

The art deco perfume bottle had very large chips on the sides and front. The antique glass repair restored the look and the value. The antique  glass is very thick and because of that I was able to grind  and polish with out making a hole or changing the look.

LaLique Crystal Perfume Bottle Repair

This is the first time I have worked on a LaLique Crystal Bottle like this. Over thirty years of repair I have worked on a lot of LaLique Crystal. There were chips around the stopper holes so I polished then out then etched then to match .

The crystal decanter had a broken neck and they were missing pieces. The crystal repair job was going to be more than a glue job. I needed to replace the broken neck .I cut off what was left of the old one and attached the new neck.  Its not a perfect match to the old neck but very close.

Antique Glass Decanter Repair

This antique glass decanter  from the 1880 was in bad shape. It had a broken neck and missing pieces from the lip.  The customer was skeptical that I could repair an antique cut glass decanter in such bad shape. I can waite  to forward this post to him with the before and after pictures of his decanter.  This is a very old and very  good cut glass decanter and it would be a shame not to repair it. I cut off the broken part of the neck and then made a new neck and lip. I attach the new neck and fit the stopper.  If you didn’t know it was repaired you would pour a drink and just enjoy.

An antique crystal decanter with a broken neck came infor repair. I found a decanter with the simular shaped neck and removed it. I used the old stopper and ground and polished it to fit the new neck. The new neck is not a perfect match but darn close. This antique cut glass decanter is ready to go back to work  fill with Scotch and enjoy.  Tell a friend this type of repair is possible. Most people on seeing this broken antique cut glass decanter would say to get rid of it . This client “googled” antique glass repair and found me. I would estimate this piece was made between 1910 and 1940 . It is hand cut lead crystal and I did not find a signature on it.

Antique Glass Repair- broken stopper

An antique glass decanter with a broken stopper was brought in for repair. The stopper broke off many years ago and was lost. The owners still had the silver top to the stopper, but a new glass bottom had to be made. I started with a glass rod a little larger than the neck of the decanter. I ground the end of the glass rod to fit the neck of the decanter. I made a stem on top of the stopper through heat and manipulation. This was fitted in to the silver top. The other chips on the bottle were left alone because they all had a story to go with them.

Starting with a solid glass rod I shape the end .

Heat and pull to create a stem to fit in to the silver top.

Can’t repair a stopper that is missing . So I designed two stoppers and my cleint pick the one she liked best. I ground a glass rod to fit the perfume bottle.Then found a cute little prism to act as the handle. Last was thing to do was make the new dauber and attach it to the stopper . This repaired crystal perfume bottle is ready for the stinky stuff.  Antique glass repair is very rewarding.In all the years I have been restoring crystal perfume bottles and stoppers this is the smallest and nices one. The sterling silver top makes it.
