About Marc Konys

Hailing from Northeast Ohio, glass maestro Marc Konys is an illustrious artisan, a revered craftsman, and an award-winning designer of glass. His unparalleled vision, coupled with his exceptional expertise in manipulating the medium, has earned him accolades from across the globe.

Growing up as the youngest amongst seven siblings in Cleveland, Ohio, Marc Konys embarked on his academic journey at Kent State University. There, the boundless potential of glass piqued his curiosity. Guided by the tutelage of Henry Halem, Konys grew profoundly enamored by the allure and versatility of glass design. This academic foundation paved the way for an apprenticeship with the legendary craftsman Joseph Bruening, igniting a fervor in Konys that would eventually become his life’s work.

In 1978, a pivotal shift occurred when Konys acquired the quaint glass establishment from Bruening, transforming it into his creative sanctum. A mere two years after inheriting Bruening Glass Works, he introduced his signature line of glass furnishings under the banner of Marc Konys Glass Design.

More than just creating, Konys reshaped the very paradigm of artistic glass interpretation. He ventured beyond established confines, continually reimagining the possibilities of the material. Undeterred by conventional methods, Marc Konys pioneered transformative techniques in the realm of glass artistry. He crafted innovative processes to mold ¾ inch glass segments into fluidic masterpieces. Konys’ knack for bending and fusing large glass panels in ways once deemed unfeasible is nothing short of revolutionary. A testament to his innovation is the unique kiln, personally designed and assembled by him in his Ohio workspace. To this day, it stands as the sole kiln with the prowess to mold ¾ inch thick glass segments to the radical extent showcased in Konys’ creations.
