Crystal Repair broken glass decanter neck and stopper

The crystal decanter had a broken neck and the stopper was also broken .  I will need to make a new neck and plug for the bottom of the glass stopper.  First I will need to cut off the broken part of the neck.

Antique Glass Repair Broken Crystal Stopper

The cut glass stopper was stuck in the decanter when it fell over and broke.  The break was in the center of the stopper were it necks down .

I decided to make a new center section and plug .  I used a glass rod to make the new part.

The new plug was ground to fit the antique glass decanter.

The glass rod was make of borosilicate glass ( pyrex )  so I was able to fire polish the new stopper.

The antique crystal decanter is made from lead glass so I had to hand polish the neck were the new plug fits

The stopper is finish and the decanter that has been in the family for many years can be passes on .

Antique Glass Repair broken stopper

The antique decanter had a  stopper broken off  in the neck .  I drilled the stuck  stopper out of the crystal decanter.   Then I make a new stopper and had to fit it in the neck.

The frosted area is were I ground the new part of the stopper to fit the antique glass decanter.  I used  # 120 grit first to hand lapped  the stopper .  I repeated the lapping process using  # 220 grit  , # 400 grit , and # 600 grit followed by polishing .   The antique glass decanters had polished stoppers.

Bringing the the family heirloom back to its original beauty  is very rewarding.  They need to clean the stopper when there is sweet liquor being stored in the antique glass decanter .  This will prevent the stopper from getting stuck again.

Crystal perfume bottle chipped and broken neck repair and new stopper

The chip was to large to be ground and polished. I needed to make a replacement  glass neck.  The small crystal  bottle also needed a new stopper.

She broke the crystal perfume  bottle but saved the sterling silver overlay and stopper.  I made a new bottle and fit the old stopper to it.

I made a mold to blow the glass into so the new bottle would fit the old sterling silver liner.  I made the hole in the new bottle small so I could grind the old stopper to fit.

Antique glass perfume bottle repair

The antique perfume bottle has been in the family for many years it holds a lot of sentimental value .  The bottle has been broken for over fifteen years . The local glass companies and antique dealers in  Miami Fla. said it was not repairable .  Her husband persisted and told her she would find someone to repair it keep looking.

The antique amber perfume bottle was sent to me with a broken neck and broken dauber.  First step in the restoration process is to remove the broken neck on the antique glass bottle. Great care is taken to remove what was left of the neck with out damaging the bottle.

Crystal Repair Antique Glass Stopper

A pair of Antique crystal cruets with a very delicate cut pattern were sent to me for repair.  The one crystal bottle was missing apart of the stopper. They sent along the top of the antique crystal stopper but the bottom had broken off and was lost. They also sent along one good antique cut glass cruet that need a stopper and one good crystal stopper.

The art deco perfume bottle had very large chips on the sides and front. The antique glass repair restored the look and the value. The antique  glass is very thick and because of that I was able to grind  and polish with out making a hole or changing the look.

Its a small little chip on the bottom of the stopper. Steuben makes the finest crystal in the world but they made colored glass many years ago. This is one of the old “ colored glass”  Steuben pieces. They are very valuable so a small chip is well worth repairing. The repair is simple just grind the stopper down . The important part is to match the same grit size so the frosting on the glass is the right . I have been a crystal repair man for thirty years and I love glass. I get crystal sent to me from around the world and I very lucky to be able to repair so many nice pieces of glass.
