broken bent beveled panel

broken bent beveled panel

Out door light with four broken curved beveled glass pieces .  The hard part is the metal  it got bent when the large piece of ice fell and hit the  light. First with a hammer and a piece of wood I repair the metal . On to the glass I made a mold and bent 1/4 inch glass to the pattern needed .Test fit each piece then hand beveled each glass panel.  Installed the new beveled bent glass panels and gave the light a bath.

Before and after beveled flashed glass lens with engraving

Before and after beveled flashed glass lens with engraving

I was told this is from a  fire engine . Its is made of flashed red glass and has a beveled edge and a number six engraved on it. Flash glass is made by layering two colored glasses together in this case red and clear. I have restored many carriage lamps over the years I wish I had photographed them now. I also make globes for oil lamp like on the railroad.

Bent Glass Curved Glass Light

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 Posted in All Repair Projects, Bent Glass, Panel Lamp Repair | No Comments »

Replacement bent glass for a new light fixture .We were faced with the challenge of repairing this broken bent flashed glass panel . We were able to make a custom mold from the origanal and successfully bent a new piece and happily ship it back to the costomer.  The cuved glass  was not a true  radius and the glass was white flashed with a forsted ( sand blasted ) texture.          See below for the photos.
